Experience the magic of Kaikōura at the end of the day, with guaranteed fur seal viewing and spectacular views of the Kaikōura mountains as the evening light changes.
Sunset is a great time to be on the water, with fur seals often actively feeding around the Peninsula. Keep watch as they hunt for octopus, while your guide shares fascinating insights into Kaikōura’s marine wildlife and environment. There is also the chance to encounter dusky dolphins and a variety of marine birdlife.
Our stable, enclosed double sea kayaks are designed to keep you warm, dry and comfortable while providing an authentic New Zealand kayaking experience. All kayaking equipment is provided, and our qualified, experienced local guides will provide everything you need to know before heading out on the water.
Explore areas of the Kaikōura coastline with a long history, including places used by local Māori and early whalers, while watching the mountains and coastline transform in the evening light.
The Sunset Evening Classic is suitable for ages 13 and over, and no previous kayaking experience is required. Our guides provide paddling instruction and support throughout the experience. Families, couples, individuals and groups are welcome.
Allow approximately 3–3.5 hours for the experience, including check-in, getting kitted out, transport, safety briefing, paddling instruction and 1.5–2 hours of paddling on the water.
The Sunset Evening Classic operates during daylight-saving months, with departures varying throughout the season. Please check the available departure time when booking.
